Senior Lecturer in Medieval/Early Modern History (1100c. to 1800c.)
Job description
The Department of English, Creative Writing, History & Politics is a thriving and successful academic community. It consistently achieves outstanding results in the National Student Satisfaction Survey and is regularly ranked in the top departments in the UK on that metric as well as for the 'value added' nature of the student experience. As a Senior
Lecturer in Medieval and/or Early Modern History in the department, the post holder will play a significant role in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
The Department's two main disciplinary teams are composed of active researchers who made a creditable contribution to the previous REF process (History/English). An opportunity has arisen to appoint a Senior Lecturer who provides high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and learning and will publish research at a level commensurate with the requirements of national assessment processes. The post represents a good opportunity for an active research scholar to come and work with a like-minded team, as well as to contribute to the teaching of our students.
The Senior Lectureship is in History (any period from 1100c. - 1800c. open to specialists in social, cultural, or political history, history of ideas, and women's or gender history); the post holder may specialise in any geographical location including Britain, Western or Eastern Europe, America (North or South), Africa or Asia. A post holder may equally define their research by theme rather than geography-culture or as a multiple or single period specialist. An open mind to be able to engage in public heritage work; and/or digital humanities; or be able to contribute potential inter-disciplinary teaching skills in associated areas of literary and cultural history to potentially contribute general humanities work at level 4, would also be welcome but not essential.
Informal enquiries about the recruitment process are welcomed by Professor Hugo Frey, Head of Department via email at h.frey@chi.ac.uk
Interview date: To be confirmed
The University of Chichester welcomes applicants from BAME (Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic) backgrounds as they are currently under-represented at this level.
